Jayco Camping Trailer Tent FabricThroughout the camping season, the tent area of your camping trailer may become dirty. And although a dirty camper might be a sign of a great camping trip, proper care of the tent on your unit is important and can help extend the life of your tent.

For minor stains, dirt and other debris on the exterior (or vinyl) side of the tent, a mild detergent and water can be used to clean the tent. Be sure to use only a sponge or soft cloth as a brush can damage the material. Rinse the tent well and wipe it down or let it air dry.

If the stains are more stubborn, Jayco’s tent fabric manufacturer reccommends using OxiClean® Fantastick® (must state it can be used on vinyl), Star Brite® vinyl cleaner, shampoo #80216, Meguiar’s® 57 Vinyl & Rubber cleaner/conditioner #5716, Marine Specialite Group Vinyl Finish/Vinyl cleaner #990917 or West Marine® Vinyl Cleaner #2669323.

The interior side of the camping trailer tent takes slightly different treatment to clean it. For minor stains, you can use a dry, soft bristle brush or use clean tap water with a sponge or a soft bristle brush.

For those stains that want to hang on as long as they can, the following products are what Jayco’s tent fabric manufacturer recommends. Oxiclean®, mild liquid detergent or Resolve® carpet cleaner.

When using any of these cleaning products, be sure to follow the instructions on the back. Most of these products can be purchased at your local hardware stores, RV dealers or supply stores. Do not use any cleaner which contains abrasives, solvents, citrus or chlorine bleach. These ingredients will damage the fabric of your camping trailer tent.

In order to avoid pesky mold and mildew from forming on your tent, always be sure to let the tent air dry or wipe it completely dry before folding it up. If you don’t, chances are that the next time you pop it open there will be some mold or mildew. This can easily be avoided by always putting the camping trailer tent away dry.

If you follow these steps, you should be able to keep your Jayco camping trailer tent clean. If you own a Jayco camping trailer and have questions on the care of your tent, please contact your local Jayco dealer or Jayco’s Customer Service department at 800-283-8267.
